Andrew Peterson
Songs for the Valley is excited to invite you to an evening with award-winning singer-songwriter and novelist Andrew Peterson in concert.
Many have recently come to know Andrew for his song, “Is He Worthy”, but his twenty years of creative output as a songwriter and novelist has served to articulate and shape the longings of hundreds of thousands of listeners, turning and training their desires towards eternal things. His poetic and theologically rich expressions have been always honest, sometimes painful, ever restless, ever hopeful, ever human. He is the rare artist who clearly sees his talent, not as a reason for pride and self-promotion, but as a thing he is given primarily to steward in the service of others.
Andrew’s most recent projects include the re-recording and 20th Anniversary Tour of Behold the Lamb of God and and the long awaited Resurrection Letters, Vol 1 that came a decade after Resurrection Letters, Vol 2.
Andrew says, “Behold the Lamb of God is about dusting cobwebs off the Christmas story to remind people it’s about the incarnation and the atonement for sin, then Resurrection Letters, Vol. I is the next chapter in the story, a celebration of what Christ saved us for. My hope is that these songs kindle a new longing not only in hearts, but down to our very bones and sinews—a tangible longing that we were made for this, for this coming redemption, for God dwelling with his people in a more profound way than he did even in the garden.”
These two significant projects are among a long list of Andrew’s projects that first began when he was a young man.
Andrew shares, “When I was 19 years old, I had a real encounter with God. I asked him, ‘Will you let me sing about you and write about you and tell your story as best as I can?’ That’s the question I still ask, and I think that’s what he’s called me to do.”
As an author, Andrew’s latest book, the creative memoir Adorning the Dark: Thoughts on Community, Calling and the Mystery of Making, was released in October 2019 and has already received several notable awards. His upcoming book, The God of the Garden: Thoughts on Creation, Culture, and the Kingdom releases this October. Andrew is also author of the award winning Wingfeather series and the founder of the Rabbit Room, a ministry dedicated to spiritual formation and Christ-centered community through story, art, and music. He lives in Nashville with his wife and about 80,000 honeybees.
We hope you will be able to join us for an evening of songs and worship that promises to deeply encourage those in attendance as Andrew reminds us of the beautiful truth of the gospel.
